Good Year Ahead: Increased IT Spending for 2013

I recently ran into this article pointing to both Gartner and Forrester research indicating that IT spending will increase in 2013. Gartner predicts an increase of 4.2 percent from 2012, and Forrester predicts an increase of 5.4 percent, with a solid 7.5 percent growth in the US alone. This means a modest growth of IT spending for 2013.

Forrester analysts also predict a strong increase in spending on IT services, especially on software related to mobility, analytics and collaboration.   I’m imagining that much of that spending will be focused on different ways to deal with Big Data and its associated challenges for the enterprise including:

  1. Mobile users who can no longer hold much data on their device but want seamless, secure access
  2. Data mining, associativity and analysis of that data
  3. How to support different users, perspectives and datasets in the same collaborative sandbox.

It’s not really about the network (as it was in the late 90s- early 2000s), but it’s about people (and their devices) collaborating together to make sense of overwhelming amounts of data.

When Mersive conducted a market research survey in Q4 of 2012, we found the majority (58 percent) of respondents planned to upgrade their meeting rooms in 2013.

For us in the visual display space, this is great news! It’s especially great for Mersive because the extra money spent towards IT will go a lot further with our products, since Mersive’s software solution replaces expensive hardware and also enables bigger, better and more cost-efficient displays.
