Technology: Computer Vision & Robots

Computer Vision & RobotsThe 2011 RoboGames have begun. I realize this blog is mostly focused on aspects of visual computing, but during my graduate days, a major influence on the design of computer vision systems was its supportive role in robotic platforms.

I come from the embodied AI school of thought that strongly ties cognition to aspects of the physical platform (how can the general concept of “contain” appear in a being without something like a hand that can contain objects?). So, I am really excited to see all the new humanoid-only categories including dance contests, kung-fu ad weightlifting. I’m waiting for a humanoid-only team sports category – would the university athletes be restricted by NCAA rules?

Take a look at a some of the video on the Robots Dreams YouTube channel.
